February Activities at Peoria Park District
Feb 2nd or Feb 4th – Nature Classes for Home Educators at Forest Park Nature Center – presents a series of programs for home educated children ages six through 12 who want to learn about Illinois’ natural world. These sessions will vary in topic and structure, and children will participate in hands-on activities aimed at increasing their knowledge and interest in each topic. Dress appropriately for outside field trips. Pre-registration is required. The topic will be Symmetry in Nature and will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. The fee is $6 per child per class or a maximum of $18 per family. There is no fee for parents/guardians, but they are requested to attend. For more info, call Forest Park Nature Center at (309) 686-3360.
WINE & ROSES – From 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. on Feb. 6th. An evening of hot jazz and sweet desserts in the sultry setting of the tropical Conservatory. Celebrate Valentine’s Day in a special way with friends or a special someone. Call 686-3362 for tickets. Ages 21 and over only. $20 for members/$25 for non-members in advance; $30 on day of event.
Feb 13 – 14 – Forest Park Book Sale to help support the Forest Park Nature Center. There will be books from gardening to wildlife to environmental philosophy to nature-inspired fiction. There’ll be plenty of general fiction and non-fiction books too! Come browse. Call 686-3360 if you’d like to donate books for the sale. Hours will be 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. (reduced prices) on Sunday.
WINTER WONDER WALK AT FOREST PARK NATURE CENTER – The Peoria Park District’s Forest Park Nature Center will hold a “Winter Wonder Walk” on Saturday, February 6, at 9:30 a.m. Watch the wonderful world of nature unfold on these naturalist- guided tours as you explore animal tracks in the snow and learn how animals cope with winter. Dress to keep warm! The event is open to the public and all ages are welcome. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated.
WIFFLEBALL TOURNAMENT with the Peoria Park District
Be sure not to miss out on the action Saturday, February 6 as we transform the RiverPlex arena into an indoor wiffleball complex. Teams will be made up of 4-6 players and compete in this self-pitch tournament where players will also run the bases. Fee is $75 per team. ADULT INDOOR GOLF – Keep your golf game in shape with indoor lessons at the Golf Learning Center! Lessons for adults at 4 weeks long, on either Tuesdays, Thursday, or Saturdays beginning the week of February 9th. These one hour lessons cover all aspects of the game and will be tailored to your skill level. Fee is $55/resident, $60/non-resident. Call the Golf Learning Center at 690-7162 for more information.
Piano Lessons for Students 50+ Offered Through Peoria Park District
Introduction, Beginning and Intermediate level piano lessons for students age 50 and over are being offered at Don’s Music Land/MusiCenter through the Peoria Park District.
Intro to Piano & Theory – In this four-week introduction course, students will learn piano playing in an enjoyable way through creative activities, note reading, ear training, theory, rhythm, and finger coordination. Supply list: a pencil and two books by James Bastien (Musicianship for the Older Beginner and The Older Beginner Piano Course).

Beginner I: Piano & Theory – If you took the four-week introduction or you’re a brand new beginner, this ten-week class is for you! Students will learn to play the piano in an enjoyable way — through creative activities, note reading, ear training, theory, rhythm, finger coordination and music history. Supply list: same as Intro to Piano & Theory list.

Beginner II: Piano & Theory – Students who previously took the two beginner classes (noon and 1 p.m.) — this ten-week class is for you! Students will learn to play the piano in an enjoyable way through creative activities, note reading, ear training, theory, rhythm, finger coordination and music history. Supply list: the books you are using, along with earphones and a pencil.

Supply list: any music you’ve been playing or would like to play, a pencil and earphones. PREREQUISITE: Beginning Piano or prior music instruction.
