Anger Management Group – The Anger Management Group of the Counseling Center at Proctor Hospital will be on July 14th. Co-facilitators for the Group are Pamela Shuck-Hoehne, MA, NCC, LCPC, RDDP and Kellie E. Branch-Dircks, MSW, LCSW, therapists with the Counseling Center.
Participants of the eight-week course will meet from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. at the Counseling Center located at 5409 N. Knoxville Ave. Cost for group participation is $250.00 per person if paid in advance or $35.00 per session ($280.00 total). A certificate of attendance will be issued after attending all sessions.
Participants will discuss angry emotions and taking responsibility for one’s behavior; learn to assess cognitive, behavioral and environmental triggers; improve coping skills in the management of anger including assertive communication, relaxation methods, and cognitive behavioral techniques; and practice anger management skills in an interactive group setting. Family Maternity Center’s Classes – The Family Maternity Center at Proctor Hospital offers an array of classes for everyone in the family including moms, dads, siblings and grandparents. Most classes are free. July’s schedule:

  • Newborn Care (free) July 1
  • LAMAZE ($60 per couple) July 7-28
  • Breastfeeding ($10.00) July 8
  • Epidural Anesthesia (free) July 14

The Stork Club is a program designed specifically to include the parents and siblings and includes tours and a special class for children. (free) July 19

Babysitters to Safesitters – Proctor Hospital & the Hult Center for Health Education are sponsoring Safe Sitter classes Thursday, July 15 and Friday, July16 at the Center. Designed for interested sitters age 11, 12 and 13, the two-day course will provide participants with insight in the areas of: babysitting as a business; child care essentials; safety for sitters and children; injury prevention; problem behaviors; what to do if a child is choking; and infant and child CPR training.
Cost is $70.00 per participant and class size is limited. Sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 3:00 p.m.; sack luncheons are required for each session. The Hult Center for Health Education is located at 5212 N. Knoxville, Peoria. For more info or to register call 692-6650.
Proctor Hospital Sponsors Free Medicare Help Desk – Proctor Hospital, in association with BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois’ Services in the Neighborhood program, offers a free Medicare Help Desk the 4th Wednesday of every month, from 9:00-11:00 a.m., in the Proctor Hospital Lobby. The next Medicare Help desk will be Wednesday, July 28. If you have questions regarding Medicare, please stop by. No appointment needed. For more info or to register call (309) 691-1070.
Health Screenings – Is your health worth checking up on? These low-cost health screenings are held at the Hult Health Education Center, 5215 N. Knoxville Avenue each Thursday morning. Call (309) 692-9595 to make your appointment for any of the following tests:
HEALTH CHECK – A unique package of healthy hints that includes a cholesterol screening, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, and height and weight measurements. $8.00.
HEART CHECK – This comprehensive coronary risk appraisal includes a detailed questionnaire, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, total cholesterol, HDL and triglyceride tests with a height and weight measurement. Participants receive a heart-health analysis with recommendations for reducing coronary risk. $30.00.
OSTEO CHECK – Heel Screening for Osteoporosis. Find out how strong your bones are with a heel screening that measures your bone density. This (non-x-ray) screening takes just ten minutes to perform and is painless. Osteo Check measures your T-score and bone mineral density. $12.00.
PSA TESTING – Prostate cancer is the leading type of cancer diagnosed in men. The PSA test is recommended for men beginning at age 50 (age 45 if you are African American), and for men who have a family history of the disease. $30.00.
PERIPHERAL ARTERY DISEASE (PAD) – PAD affects the arteries outside the heart and brain. This ankle-brachial index (ABI) screening is painless and takes only 15 minutes. During the screening, blood pressure in the feet is compared with the blood pressure in your arms. This helps determine how well your blood is flowing. $20.00
CBC AND COMPREHENSIVE METABOLIC PROFILE – Venipuncture blood test that measures albumin, total protein, total cholesterol/HDL ratio, alkaline phosphate, calcium, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, glucose, sodium, potassium, chloride acid, C02, bilirubin, SGOT, BUN, and creatinine. This screening is recommended for adults and is a complete blood count used to diagnose anemia and infections. A 12-hour fast is recommended. $40.00.
LIPID PROFILE – Venipuncture blood test that measures glucose, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. This screening is recommended for adults, especially those having a personal or family history of diabetes, elevated cholesterol levels, or heart attack/stroke. A 12-hour fast is recommended. $20.00.
