Peoria Symphony Orchestra Announces Changes to March Program

A late cancellation by a guest artist and the music director’s wish to enliven the local music scene with new faces has led to some changes in the Peoria Symphony Orchestra’s March 26 concert in the Civic Center Theater.

Oboist Alex Klein was originally slated to perform Richard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto in D Major, but has cancelled his appearance due to schedule conflicts. Instead, award-winning young violinist Saeka Matsuyama will perform Mendelssohn’s lyrical Violin Concerto in E Minor. The rest of the program remains the same, and includes contemporary composer Ellen Taffe Zwillich’s Concerto Grosso and Richard Strauss’s Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.

Praised for her “soulful intensity” and “incandescent sense for musical line” (The Strad), Saeka Matsuyama has performed with leading orchestras around the globe.
