May 1 – St. Martin Chamber Players will present a program of choral and comic music at 3:00 p.m. at the Universalist Unitarian Church, 3000 W. Richwoods Blvd. The concert is free & open to the public. An offering is accepted & a reception will follow the concert. For more info call 688-5608.

May 1 – Mother/Daughter May Day Tea Party! Join this festive celebration of Springtime at Flanagan House. Invite your mother, daughter, sister, grandmother or good friend! Costumed ladies will show & describe fashionable women’s and girls’ dresses and underpinnings of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The event is from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Flanagan House Museum, 942 NE Glen Oak Ave,. Adults, $15.00, children under 12, $5.00. Advance reservations required. Call 674 1921.

May 1 – Conklin’s Barn II Dinner Theatre – Doors Open 12:00 p.m., Buffet 12-1:00 p.m., Show at 1:30 p.m. Sunday Brunch: $34.00. Call: 965-2545. This hilarious farce is about two homes, two wives, two policemen…one big problem!

May 6 – 16 – The Drowsy Chaperone @ Peoria Players Theatre. Call (309)688-4473. Admission: Adults – $17 and Children 18 and under are $12. This Tony Award winner is a regional premiere at Peoria Players! This is a musical within a comedy.

May 7 – Race for the Cure – at Metro Center. Call 691-6906. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Since its inception in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a global series of more than 120 Races with more than 1 million participants.

May 7 – Kentucky Derby Party – This fundraiser helps the Central IL Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Assoc. to reach out to families whose loved ones are developing Alzheimer’s or other dementia disorders. The event is at the Country Club of Peoria. Hors d’oeuvres, betting & bidding begins at 4:30 p.m. Race time is at 5:15 p.m. Live Auction begins at 7:00 p.m. $75 ticket price and $25 Derby Bar (sampling of 5 drinks) Call 681-1100.

May 7 – Decades before Johnny Depp and Disney revived swashbuckling movies with “Pirates of The Caribbean” (whose latest installment, “On Stranger Tides,” is due out May 20), Errol Flynn set the standard for Hollywood buccaneers, and the 1935 classic “Captain Blood” is showing at downtown Peoria’s nonprofit Apollo Theater at 7:00 p.m. Call 673-4343.

May 7 – Peoria area Blind Peoples Center’s annual Pancake & Sausage Breakfast from 7:00 a.m. – noon at 2905 W. Garden St. This annual event is sponsored by the Princeville Lions Club. All you can eat for $5.50; children under ten are $3.00. Live plants, glass jewelry, baked goods and other items for Mother’s Day are available.

May 8 – Mother’s Day at the Glen Oak Zoo – Call 686-3365. On Mother’s Day all moms will get in Free with a paid admission for accompanying children. Learn about moms in the animal kingdom and enjoy the Zoo too!

May 11 – Community Make a Blanket Day to benefit Project Linus at: Jones Sewing Machine Co., 3410 N. Prospect Rd. 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sewing machines, fabric squares & fleece provided.  Bring favorite notions, such as scissors, pins, etc. & your own lunch. Call 382-3672.

May 12 – The Peoria Genealogical Society general meeting will be at Lakeview Branch Library at 7:00 p.m. Featured speakers are Ted and Dawn Henry.

May 14 – Ribbon cutting at 10:00 a.m. to open the doors of the Peoria Public Library North Branch. On this landmark day the public will be able to fully enjoy the services at the new facility, located at 3001 W. Grand Parkway, as well as a variety of special events to celebrate this special day.

May 15 – Denise Cooksey will present “A Piccolo, a Flute and a Shakulute” flute recital at 3:00 p.m. at the Universalist Unitarian Church, 3000 W. Richwoods Blvd,. The performance is free & open to the public: offerings accepted & a reception will follow. Call 688-5608.

This hour long tour will take you into areas the public doesn’t normally get to see, you can learn more about the animals and how we care for them. Cost is $20 per person and includes Zoo admission.
