Peoria City/County Health Department Sponsors Free Screenings for Women’s Health Week

The Peoria City/County Health Department will be celebrating Women’s Health Week with free health screenings for women on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Health Department. Women’s Health Week is a nationwide initiative to encourage women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life.

Free heart and wellness screenings will include: cholesterol and glucose blood tests (fasting 8-12 hours is required), osteoporosis heel scan, blood pressure check, and heart health EKG. These free screenings will be offered by the Peoria City/County Health Department and the Methodist Wellmobile with funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health Office of Women’s Health.

Information will be provided on cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, breast health, heart health, nutrition, tobacco, and stroke. Participants will also be entered in drawings to win give-a-ways and prizes.
