Kellogg Golf Course Renovations Approved

The Peoria Park District Board of Trustees approved the Kellogg Golf Course design concept presented by Lohmann Golf Designs at the May board meeting. Therefore, the 18-hole course will close on August 1. The Executive 9-hole course be open for the season.

This will be the first large-scale renovation since the course was built in 1971. One change will be reseeding the fairways, approaches, and greens with bent grass, and rye grass will be used for the tee boxes. Sand bunkers will be increased from 21 to between 25-30 smaller bunkers. Improved quality sand will be used and drainage problems will be addressed. Putting surfaces will be expanded, giving more character to the greens. Some trees will be removed to allow for better air circulation and to give the turf more exposure to sunlight. The clubhouse will see some improvements: restroom refurbishing, new carpeting, and a drop ceiling. Clubhouse changes will take place during the winter months.

Leagues had been given advanced notice that there was a chance of a closure, and they will be moved accordingly. There is also one change to the Peoria Park District Golf tournament schedule. The Peoria Men’s City tournament was scheduled to be played at Kellogg but will be moved to Newman Golf Course.
