Peoria Park District in July

The 5th Annual Peoria Park District Long Drive Challenge – Qualifying will take place on Sat., June 25 at the southernmost field at Detweiller Park from 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. The finals will be held at Donovan Golf Course hole #4 on Mon., June 27 at 6:00 p.m. Radio personality Jamie Markley will be mc-ing the finals. Cost for qualifying is $10 for five shots. Sign up for an advance qualifying tee time Mon., June 20 through Fri., June 24 by calling Detweiller Golf Course at (309) 692-7518, or walk on the day of. Golfers may reserve two tee times in advance, but they may hit more if there are open spots available. A Peoria Park District golf professional will be on hand at all times.

COMMUNITY CHILDREN’S THEATRE PRESENTS:

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” – The Peoria Park District’s Community Children’s Theatre is proud to present their summer production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The musical will be at Peoria Players Theatre with evening performances on July 7-9 at 7:00 p.m. and afternoon performances on July 8-10 at 1:30 p.m. The performance on July 10 at 1:30 p.m. will be signed for the hearing impaired.Tickets go on sale on June 20 and are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children 12 and under. CATCH THE WIFFLEBALL TOURNAMENT  THIS SUMMER – The Peoria Park District will host a Wiffleball Tournament on Sun., July 24 at Peoria Stadium. Use the break between softball seasons to play wiffleball! Adults (ages 18 and over) will form teams of 3-4 players to compete in a one-day tournament outdoors. Participants will pitch to their opponents and hits will be determined by distance markers. Fee is $60 per team. Registration is ongoing and runs until August 4 or tournament fills. TENNIS LESSONS OFFERED AT THE PEORIA PARK DISTRICT – The second session of Peoria Park District’s Tennis Lessons will begin next week on July 5. The third session will start July 25. Registration is available for all tennis programs, including Youth tennis and Adult tennis. Registration is ongoing at the Glen Oak Park Pavilion or online. PEORIA PARK DISTRICT PARK PLAYERS TO PERFORM “ROBIN HOOD” – The Peoria Park District’s Park Players present “Robin Hood,” an audience participation play, at the Glen Oak Park Amphitheatre on Mon., July 25 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. At dusk, the Amphitheatre will present its outdoor movie series, Family Flicks with a screening of the animated film, “Despicable Me.” Admission to the movie is 50 cents per person. SOFTBALL IS A HIT AT THE PEORIA PARK DISTRICT

– Gather your friends and get a team together for Adult Slow-Pitch Softball. Get in the swing of things with this seven-game season starting August 7. Leagues are offered Sunday through Thursday evenings. Games will be played at Peoria Stadium. Team fees are $185 for residents and $200 for non-residents. Teams that register after July 22 must add $25. Player fees are $11 for residents and $16 for non-residents. Registration packets are available at the Recreation Office in Glen Oak Park Pavilion. Softball registration begins June 27 and continues until leagues fill.

BARKING DEER ON DISPLAY AT PEORIA ZOO – Meet Peoria Zoo’s newest resident, a 9-month-old male Reeve’s muntjac. These small deer are nicknamed “barking deer” because they make a sharp barking sound as their alarm call. When fully grown male muntjacs have antlers and large canine teeth that can get up to one inch long. Come check him out at his new home along the Asian Trail!
