An overview of the Tazewell County Jaycees end-of-the-year projects

The Tazewell County Jaycees have had a full year of projects and social happenings throughout 2011. In August, the Jaycees cleaned up their stretch of highway through the Adopt-A-Highway program which benefitted many who lived near the area of road located in East Peoria, Illinois. This event was well received by the public with many people stopping to honk and appreciate the efforts of the Jaycees with this cleanup.

In September, some Jaycees board members went to the General Assembly to meet with other local Jaycees and show their support of Jaycees organizations throughout Central Illinois. The members win awards from time to time through the projects they have worked diligently on throughout the year including: Tri For Kid’s Sake, a triathlon to benefit Big Brother’s and Big Sister’s, the Trivia Night events throughout the year, contributions to Camp New Hope, and other organizational activities.

Some of the greatest moments of giving back to the community have involved their local Trivia Nights at East Peoria’s Timeout.  December’s Trivia Night donates to Toys for Tots, a great charity that helps needy children during this holiday season. Trivia Night’s are one of the biggest projects the Tazewell County Jaycees do each year and raise some money for charity while having fun answering questions in teams, while supporting great community contributions. The group also just finished visiting Camp New Hope to help volunteer over a weekend in Mattoon, IL this October.

Another great project for the end of the year involves a local “Trunk or Treat” in East Peoria, where the Tazewell County Jaycees meet to hand out candy to local children. The members dress up in costumes, decorate their car trunks, and help give to kids during the Halloween season. This event is a lot of fun for both the members of the Jaycees and the children themselves. These children really appreciate moments to be brought a smile while walking around with their parents this Halloween through the gifts of others.

The group also goes to regular Business After Hours events to meet with business members in the Central Illinois community and talk about what they do. Their enthusiasm for their group is very positive within their local meetings, working at the Business Expo, and through the variety of things they do for the community. Overall, the Tazewell County Jaycees have done much for the community through their positive efforts in 2011.
