Finding a Job Online in Central Illinois

I love my job! I have a great boss (me) and like helping my customers with their computer and internet questions. It is fun watching their companies grow and enjoying their success.

How about you? Are you happy with your current job? Maybe you are interested in growing your paycheck or finding a second job. If your new resume isn’t helping the situation maybe you should expand your search online. There are many options for you right here in Central Illinois. The highly advertised PeoriaHelpWanted.com is pretty popular. But you can also use a social network like LinkedIn.com. There is an entire section devoted to jobs. Simply click the job tab on LinkedIn and search for “Peoria.” Also, it doesn’t hurt to follow some of your favorite company Facebook pages. If they are looking for help, they usually share the news with their followers first.

Speaking of social networks, before looking for a job, please clean your Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc accounts. Delete any unprofessional comments or pictures. It’s easy for employers to look here before following up with potential hires. If your account is public and even if it’s not, it’s easy for prospective employers to see what you are up to.

After getting your online presence fresh and sparkling, it’s time to start looking for your new occupation. In addition to Indeed.com and Monster.com, here are a couple of website links right here in Central Illinois to help you with your search:

http://www.ciproud.biz/jobs

http://www.peoria.com/jobs/

All of these websites have a search function so you can find your new position by keyword or city and state. In addition, many times you can apply online. Make sure you have your updated resume handy to save some time.

Although most of the time, my family, children and even clients have had great success by creating a professional looking resume and doing a mass mailing to companies in which they are interested in working. Always have a cover letter and a condensed but detailed description on your work history and objectives.

More recently, I have created a few web pages for clients looking for work. We purchase their name as the domain name (www.JohnSmith.com). We then add their resume information with an optional picture with all their contact information as well as a downloadable copy of their resume. It’s easy for clients to just refer potential employers to their webpage to see their history and the client can update it as their work history changes.

I think back of the pre-computer days when we had to pound the pavement and write our resume by hand or typewriter. It seems we can create many more ways to connect faster with potential employers. Unfortunately, we still need patience to wait for the perfect job.
