The impact in Peoria County

* Suicides are trending upward, with annual rates above the national rate in four of the last 10 years.

* Drug-related deaths overtook alcohol-related deaths over the last decade. Drug-induced deaths went from 48.3% to 63.9% while alcohol-induced deaths fell from 51.7% to 36.1%.

* Poisoning, which includes chronic drug use accidental poisoning and overdoses, in the last 12 years has overtaken motor-vehicle accidents as a leading cause of death.

* For Peorians 18 and older over the last year, 27,920 have experienced a mental illness with 7,122 classified as having a serious mental illness, and 4,843 have experienced a substance abuse disorder with mental illness.

* For Peorians 12 and older over the last month, 14,232 have used an illegal drug, 35,580 have binged on alcohol, and 10,055 have participated in heavy alcohol use.
