This year’s 16th annual West Peoria Night Out Against Crime will be 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday Sept. 10 at the Franciscan Recreation Center. Judge Jodie Hoos is a special invited guest. Events include: bicycle rodeo and drawing, cane demonstrations, armored vehicle and firefighting equipment. Nut&Honey, a West Peoria favorite, will be entertaining with live music. Face painting, gate prizes, hot dogs and snow cones will make this an even better evening. Plan to attend, bring your family and friends.

Another upcoming fun annual event is Family Day hosted by the West Peoria Fire Department noon to 3 p.m. Sunday Sept. 18 at the firehouse. Neighborhood kids enjoy the chance to take a ride through the neighborhood on the back of a fire truck. It is a ride filled with smiling faces and excitement. Other activities offer help with fire safety to keep safety in the front of the minds of all who attend. Take time to thank all the volunteers who keep our community a safe place to live.

Upcoming meetings include: West Peoria Neighborhood Watch, 6 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 14 in city hall. West Peoria Residents’ Association 6 p.m. Thursday Sept. 15 in city hall. Annual West Peoria Beauty Award will be presented to the “most improved” residential West Peoria property.  The key focus of this award is how a property has been improved and has added beauty to its neighborhood. The Lions Club will next meet 6 p.m. Monday Sept. 12 in city hall. The West Peoria book club meets 6 p.m. Monday Sept. 19. For more information, contact Maggie Moore at 673-0535. Seniors on the Go meet 1 p.m. Thursday Sept. 22 in the township building. The West Peoria Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. Monday Sept. 19 and will be entertained with information about miniature gardens, including fairy gardens.

The transportation committee of the West Peoria City Council is now accepting petitions for fiscal year 2017 sidewalk replacement program. Residents of a block may petition the city to participate in this program. Petitions mush be filed with the city before 5 p.m. Sept. 1 to be considered for the FY 2017 construction season. Petitions will be reviewed and recommendations submitted to the city council in December 2016. More information can be obtained at city hall or on the city’s website.
