West Peoria News: Garbage fee vote

Bob Streitmatter, manager of Luthy Botanical Garden, will speak at 6 p.m. March 15 at the West Peoria Resident’s Association, West Peoria City Hall. The public is invited to attend.

You have the opportunity to vote March 20 on whether or not West Peoria should switch its method of collecting fees for garbage collection from direct individual billing to spreading the charges throughout the city by placing them on property owners’ real estate tax bills. The ballot will read: “Shall the City of West Peoria impose a garbage collection tax with a tax rate of up to 1.10 percent on the taxable real estate within the City of West Peoria, Illinois, as provided by 65 ILCS 5/11-19-4, as may be amended from time to time.” Contact West Peoria City Hall at 309-674-1993 with questions.

Early voting will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 14 at West Peoria City Hall. The general primary election is 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 20 at your normal polling location.

The West Peoria Township annual meeting will be 7:30 p.m. April 10 in the township building. All elected township officials will speak as well as people involved with township-wide activities and projects.
