The upcoming city consolidated election on April 2 has the following candidates vying for office: Mayor James R. Dillon; City Clerk Mary Barnes; Treasurer Julie McGill; Ward 1 Alderperson Hazel Thomas; Ward 2 Alderperson Jeff Reagan; Ward 3 Alderperson Jeff Goranson; Ward 4 Alderperson vacant with no candidate.

A candidates night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 21 in City Hall sponsored by the West Peoria Residents Association. Attend the candidates night program to learn more about our community. March is a busy month for the city. City committees are developing the fiscal year 2020 budget (May 1, 2019 – April 30, 2020) to determine infrastructure projects, update the city maps and bring permits current before warm weather begins. March meetings are 5 p.m. March 6, finance committee and public safety committee at 6:30 p.m. The city council meets 7 p.m. March 12 and March 26. On March 20 the transportation committee meets at 5:30 p.m. and public safety committee meets at 6:30 p.m. The planning commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. March 26. All meetings are at city hall.

The Beautification Committee is waiting for spring before work begins. You don’t need to possess a green thumb but want to enjoy your fellow citizens. Call Maggie Moore at 673-0535 for more details. Spring also brings us more daylight hours with the advent of daylight savings time on March 10 when we set our clocks forward by one hour.

Boy Scout Troop 11 will again be selling garbage bags. Bags can be purchased from any Troop 11 scout or by calling Bob DeSutter, 674-668. Orders will be taken March 18 through April 1. Delivery will be the week of April 8.
