The 49th celebration of the West Peoria Fourth of July parade and flag raising is upon us. The parade starts 10 a.m. (rain or shine) and wends its way through West Peoria. This event is well attended by thousands of people visiting our community as well as the many people who live here. Volunteers are needed for a large variety of jobs. Entry prizes are awarded. Visit cityofwestpeoria.org for up-to-date information. The parade follows Rohmann to Sterling to Waverly, then once again to Rohmann leaving Rohmann at Sterling to the Franciscan Park at Heading Ave. Announcement of parade winners and the flag raising take place there. The parade does necessitate closing of streets as well as parking issues. Be aware of these issues when planning for the day.

It is an ideal time to spotlight West Peoria to Central Illinois. Yards should be cleaned, mowed and garbage cans off the sidewalks. Have a party and enjoy.

Other July events include a Neighborhood Watch meeting 6 p.m. July 10 at City Hall. “As the Page Turns” Book Club July meeting will be 6 p.m. July 15. Contact Loretta at 637-0326 or Maggie at 673-0535 for location of the meeting. Book to be discussed is “The Reckoning” by John Grisham.
