Township Supervisor Sharon Kennedy is looking for people interested in sharing what they know about the history of West Peoria. Kennedy can be reached at the township building, 2516 W. The Western Avenue Greenway borders West Peoria on the opposite side of Western Avenue from Main Street through Calendar Avenue. It is a privately-owned and operated park that is maintained by members and is funded by various fund raisers and donations. Recently Big Ray’s Express Oil Change has picked up garbage and debris that accumulates on the Greenway. The Greenway board is deeply appreciative of these efforts. If you walk through the Greenway and see trash, please pick it up.

Whittier Primary School has recently added new items to the playground to enrich the children’s school experience and provide the community with a place for family and friends to gather when school is not in session. A Facebook page has been set up at whittierplay150 for inquiries. You can purchase merchandise with a portion of the money targeted to Whittier. Assistance is provided on the website, https://www.boonsupply.com/collections/603247-whittier-playground-committee. The current fundraiser ends Dec. 31. A community fundraiser will be organized in the spring.

Both West Peoria Fire Department and Auxiliary need new members. No prior experience is necessary. Training will be provided by the department. Contact Chief Terry Schadt at 674-6615 or visit the firehouse during drill times, Wednesday 7 – 9 p.m. or Sunday 10 a.m. until noon.

The West Peoria Book Club next meets 6 p.m. Dec. 16. The featured book is “The Christmas Shoes” by Donna VanLieve. For more information, contact: Lorreta at 637-0326 or Maggie at 673-0535.

City Hall reminds residents of snow issues for this season. When 2 inches of snow or more is predicted, all cars must be removed from streets as all West Peoria streets are considered snow routes. Cars will be towed if they interfere with snow removal. Be certain you have current information on the city by checking the website cityofwestpeoria.com.

City Council recently approved a Neighborhood Safety Grant for outside security cameras with recording capabilities. The City will reimburse qualified residents 50% of cost up to $300. Visit the City of West Peoria website or call City Hall at 674-1993.
