ILLINOIS SENIOR OLYMPICS PLANNED FOR MAY 1-4, 2008
The 9th Annual Heart of Illinois Senior Olympics (HISO) is planned for May 1 through May 4 in
Central Illinois. HISO, associated with the National Senior Games Association, encourages and promotes an active lifestyle for individuals 50 years of age and older. This event is one of approximately 12 regional games held throughout Illinois, culminating in the state games held in September in
Springfield, which is a qualifying event for the biennial National Senior Games.
The Heart of Illinois Senior Olympic Games not only recognizes excellence in fitness but also acknowledges the creativity and spirit of those 50 and older. You don’t need to be an expert to participate in any event, so treat yourself to some fun with bowling, swimming, table tennis, bingo, the fine arts showcase and much more.
Some of the events include:• Athletic Events: Golf, Swimming, Track & Field, Tennis, Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, Billiards, Cycling, Table Tennis, Badminton, etc.• Challenge Activities: Mini-Golf, Putting Challenge, Fun Walk, Bocce Ball, Washer Toss, Bridge, Spelling Bee, etc.
• Fine Arts Events: Performing, Literary, and Visual Arts
Events are held at designated sites throughout the Tri-County area, including Peoria, East Peoria,
Pekin, and Morton Park Districts. Opening Ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 1 at the Fondulac Park District Administration offices and will include dinner, torch lighting and Fine Art performances.
Also scheduled are:
Family Fun Night on Saturday, May 3 with dinner and games. Pre-registration for events is required but volunteers are needed to assist with events.
