UNVEILING TO CELEBRATE SIX NEW CELL TOWERS IN GREATER PEORIA AREA

Peoria Mayor and U.S. Cellular to Celebrate Network and Business Investment

WHAT: Peoria Mayor Ardis and U.S. Cellular will host an event to celebrate the company’s network expansion in Peoria . A cluster of six new cell sites will provide additional network coverage to the area and the nearby cities of Normal, Pekin , Bellevue and Marquette Heights . In addition, these new sites will provide better call quality and capacity to serve the growing number of cell phone users in the area.

The completed construction of the six cell sites is part of an ongoing effort to expand the company’s central Illinois network and adds to the extensive statewide network of more than 1,400 U.S. Cellular sites.

Proctor Hospital Open House for Volunteers

VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULED 

On Wednesday, August 20, from10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Proctor Hospital will host an open house for individuals interested in volunteer opportunities.  The event will be held in the Atrium of the Hospital located at 5409 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria. Participants may tour the Hospital, meet current volunteers and receive information about Proctor’s two volunteer groups – the Service Auxiliary for women and, the Medical Escorts group for men. There will be a DVD presentation on the history of the Hospital (and Peoria) from the 1880’s to today. Refreshments will be provided.  

Registration is not necessary. Guests should enter through the main lobby of the Hospital.

SeniorNet Registration for Fall Classes on August 16th

Peoria Area SeniorNet Schedules Registration for Fall Classes

Registration for Peoria Area SeniorNet fall classes will be on Saturday, August 16, 2008.  Registration will take place any time from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Classrooms 1 & 2 on the Lower Level of the Proctor Professional Building at 5401 North Knoxville in Peoria. 

Mail-in registration is also offered for those who cannot attend.  The deadline for mail-in registration is September 1, 2008.  All classes will begin during the week of September 15, 2008.  For more information call 1-800-872-4651, ext. 1510 and leave a message.  A SeniorNet volunteer will return your call and answer any questions you may have.  A detailed schedule of classes is available on our web site at www.PeoriaAreaSeniorNet.org.  Click on the Fall Classes button. 

Classes will include:  Beginning Computer Fundamentals, Advanced Computer Fundamentals, Email for the Novice User, How to Use the Internet, Introduction to Scanners, Digital Camera Tutorial, Photoshop Elements, PICASA, Print Shop, Premier Elements 3.0 Video Editing, eBay - Buying and Selling, Quicken 6.0, Genealogy, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access Database, Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation, Microsoft Front Page Web Design, Microsoft PhotoStory3, Windows Explorer - Working with Files, Computer Maintenance (XP and Vista), and Advanced Computer Maintenance (XP).  Classes are scheduled at five different locations in the Peoria Area.

BMW Ultimate Drive “Pink Parade” kicks off on July 15th

Twenty-five breast cancer survivors will lead the way on Tuesday, July 15th as this year’s BMW Ultimate Drive Supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure kicks off. The “Pink Parade” will leave from BMW of Peoria at 9:00 a.m. The award presentation honoring
Peoria’s “local hero” will take place at noon at BMW of Peoria. This year’s recipient is Monica Regnier, a
Peoria resident and past Komen Peoria Race for the Cure chair and volunteer who has made an outstanding personal effort in the fight against breast cancer.

Fall Music Festival at Glen Oak Park

A Tribute to Dan Fogelberg with John Sebastian, Ralph’s World, The Peoria Acoustic All Stars & Lollester Rocket 

When: Saturday, September 13, 2008. Doors open at 2:00 p.m.

Where:  Glen Oak Amphitheater at Glen Oak Park

Tickets: Children 12 & under: $7; Adults: $20 advance, $25 door — on sale July 10th. 

Music, food and fun for the whole family! 

Celebrate Peoria’s musical heritage and pay tribute to local legend Dan Fogelberg with food, children’s activities and live music in the beautiful outdoor amphitheater at Glen Oak Park. There will be plenty of food, a beer garden, booths for local nonprofits, artists and vendors, along with Dan Fogelberg memorabilia on display.
