Nature Photo Contest and Show Oct 24th - Nov 14th

Posted by Debbie Adlof on October 23rd, 2008

Nature Photo Contest and Show Open House & Judging: October 24, 6:30-8:30 PM
Show: October 24-November 14, 2008
Forest Park Nature Center, 5809 Forest Drive, Peoria Heights, IL 61616
There is a public open house Friday, October 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, as the museum of Forest Park Nature Center is transformed into an extensive photography show for this year’s Nature Photography Contest. Three judges will be reviewing the photos and will announce the top place photos during the open house. Refreshments will be served. The photos will remain on display through November 14.
This popular event had nearly 300 photos submitted in 2007.  There are five categories in the contest: Wildlife, Backyard/Urban Wildlife, Nature Landscape/Scene, Close-up Flora, and Young Shutterbugs, the last category for 12 year olds and younger. Prizes donated by local businesses are awarded for first place overall and for first and second place winners in each category. This year’s grand prize is a weekend stay at Kishauwau on the Vermillion, a year round country retreat near Starved Rock.

The photography is submitted mainly by local residents of Peoria and surrounding communities. Contact Forest Park at 309-686-3360 for additional information. Forest Park is located in Peoria Heights at 5809 Forest Park Drive.
