Green View was recently awarded the Grand Award for its Macy’s Flower Show® project in Chicago, IL as part of the 40th Annual Environmental Improvement Awards Program sponsored by the Professional Landscape Network (PLANET). Green View has also been awarded two distinction awards for the Grimes Project in Dunlap, IL and the Vannatta project in Bloomington, IL.
The Macy’s Flower Show® in Chicago was held at the beginning of April 2009 and it is an annual tradition that welcomes the Spring season at the store. This year the theme, Dream In Color, featured a vast of vibrant landscape flowers, plant life and pink flamingos. The floral estravaganza mainly occupied the first floor on the State Street side of the store, as well as other locations in the store, including the middle fountain atrium, the bridge directly across from the fountain, the Walnut Room, and in six of the store’s famed windows. Many months of preparantion went into designing and planning the event in coordination with the Macy’s operation.
For the Grimes project in Dunlap, IL, the clients wanted to connect, expand, and improve the existing seating areas to create dramatic spaces that could be used for large gatherings. They also wanted to attract birds, and requested room to garden. The project involved extensive bluestone work, including covering an existing concrete patio, creating a large raised bluestone space with radial steps, and creating various bluestone walls and terraces.
For the Vannatta project in Bloomington, IL, the client dreamed of a striking outdoor living space to be enjoyed year-round, as both a private retreat and as a gathering place for family and friends. The elements incorporated into this space included a grand entrance, a waterfall pond, a council ring and an area to accommodate large groups of guests. Several destination points along paths give visitors an opportunity to pause and enjoy the landscape from various vantage points.
