Spanish Speaking Volunteers Needed!
The Salvation Army will open its annual Toy Shop on Tuesday , December 22 and Wednesday, December 23rd at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center, 2903 W. Nebraska Ave. Each year The Salvation Army sponsors the Toy Shop for parents of low-income families to enable them to choose new toys for their children. Approximately 5,000 children will receive toys through this program.
With an increase in Spanish speaking clients, there is a need currently for volunteers to assist parents while shopping for their children.
“The Toy Shop is looking for volunteers who are fluent in Spanish to help act as shoppers with the parents. Perhaps Spanish teachers, or students fluent in Spanish that could volunteer a few hours one of our two Toy Shop days would be ideal,” said Captain James Frye, Divisional Youth Secretary for The Salvation Army.
The Toy Shop hours are 8am-6pm on Tuesday, December 22 and from 9am to noon on Wednesday, December 23rd. For more information or to volunteer your skills, please contact Shirley Byrd St. Clair and let her know that you can speak Spanish and want to help.
To date, over $398,000 has been raised towards the $1,350,000 Tree of Lights goal. Donations to the Tree of Lights Campaign can be made by mailing to The Salvation Army, PO Box 1468, Peoria, IL 61655, or by calling (309) 655-7220 to charge on American Express, MasterCard, Visa or Discover Card.
