The OSF Saint Francis Medical Exercise Program, located at the RiverPlex, 600 NE Water Street in Peoria, is making enhancements in programming to meet the unique needs of the older adults in the community. By partnering with the nationally recognized Healthways SilverSneakers® Fitness Program, OSF Saint Francis Medical Exercise Program is able to offer older adults a way to increase their levels of physical activity while motivating them to remain active.
SilverSplash® is the newest SilverSneakers® offering to promote Fitness, Fun and Friends. The water fitness class is designed to enhance each individual’s quality of life and daily function. A variety of exercises utilizing the physical properties of water will help members increase their agility, range of movement and cardiovascular conditioning.
“Healthways’ newest SilverSneakers® classes create a wider variety in offerings and additional options for improving strength, flexibility and endurance,” says Deborah Redder, Director of Instructor Development and Activity Programming for Healthways. “SilverSplash can be enjoyed by participants who are fit and active, as well as those who are sedentary, new to exercise or transitioning from rehabilitation services.”
The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program, designed exclusively for older adults, offers physical activity, health education, and social events. With the SilverSneakers premier network, members receive access to a variety of participating locations throughout the country. Many sites offer amenities such as fitness equipment, treadmills and free weights, and the signature SilverSneakers Fitness Program classes, designed specifically for older adults and taught by certified instructors. Additional signature classes, such as YogaStretch, SilverSplash® and Cardio Circuit may be available at select locations. A designated staff member will help you along the way.
