Local centurion organizations partner to keep Central Illinois clean

More than 100 volunteers and Scouts from the W. D. Boyce Council and Illinois Mutual will join together for a community service project to help make Central Illinois the most beautiful place on Earth. The community clean-up, in conjunction with the Great American Clean-Up, and tree planting will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2010 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Peoria Riverfront and the Flanagan House.

In cooperation with Keep Peoria Beautiful, The City of Peoria, and Operation Good Turn for America, Scouts, their families and Illinois Mutual volunteers are becoming heroes for their environment. Participants will pick up litter and debris along the Peoria Riverfront and at the Flanagan House.

Beginning at 2:00 p.m., participants will be recognized for their hard work in a tree planting ceremony at the Peoria Riverfront Park. As part of the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts all over the country will plant trees as “living legacies” of Scouting’s commitment to supporting youth and their families. For every tree planted during the ceremony, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant a corresponding tree in the newly created Boy Scouts of America Centennial Forest. The Centennial Forest will aid in re-planting the Flathead National Forest in Montana after recent fires.
