After several years of planning, the start of construction and renovation at Peoria Public Library Lincoln Branch will be marked with a public groundbreaking ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 9 at Lincoln Branch, 1312 W. Lincoln.
The Peoria Public Library Board of Trustees Linda Daley and Aurthur Perkins will make short remarks as will Margaret Cousins from the Central Illinois Landmark Foundation.
In August, renovation and expansion of the 99-year-old Carnegie Library will begin. A 12,000 square foot addition will add space for state-of-the-art library services at the popular branch while careful renovation and the addition of a “green wall” will highlight and preserve the classic architecture of the Peoria landmark. Guests will be able to view renderings of the new addition and original building inside Lincoln Branch during and after the ceremony. Renderings are also available on the library website. The project, part of the Peoria Public Library $28 million building program, is expected to be completed by late summer 2011.
