Lucinda Yates, a once homeless woman who founded the multi-million dollar company, Designs By Lucinda, will keynote the ywca Peoria’s 34th annual Leader Luncheon on April 17 at the Peoria Civic Center.
Area women, who have been empowered to make a difference in our community and to their professions, also will be recognized at the Luncheon.
The event, one of the ywca’s biggest fundraisers, is made possible through the support of generous community sponsors, including: Architectural Design Group, PNC, Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, Philippi-Hagenbuch, Caterpillar Inc., and OSF Medical Center. Tickets are $45 per person. They are available by calling 685-7655 ext. 211 or may be purchased online at ywcapeoria.com.
In the early 1980’s due to unforeseen circumstances Lucinda Yates and her young daughter found themselves homeless. Knowing there was something she could do to help herself overcome poverty and homelessness, Lucinda used her creativity and drive to launch a successful line of fashion jewelry. One day she designed a simple pin in the shape of a house. That was the moment she knew she could help others. Come to the Leader Luncheon and hear the story.
A limited number of Lucinda pins are available for sale at Fiber Universe, located at 305 S.W. Water Street in Peoria. Proceeds from the sale of the pins benefit the ywca Peoria.
Since 1893, the ywca Peoria has worked to advance women and strengthen families in our community. It is an organization run by women, focusing on women and their families. It offers a variety of programs and events to build, sustain and recognize female achievement in the community.
