PUBLIC-SERVICE WORKERS TO HOLD STATEWIDE “DAY OF ACTION” AGAINST GOV. QUINN’S CUTS TO DISABILITY SERVICES, PUBLIC SAFETY AND JOBS

More than 50 events across Illinois as part of “No Quinn Cuts” campaign

Thousands of caregivers, child protection workers, correctional officers, state police and other frontline state employees represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 31 will hold a statewide “Day of Action” tomorrow (Thursday, March 15) with more than 50 events throughout Illinois.

The events will bring together public-service workers, community supporters and local elected officials to demonstrate the widespread opposition to Governor Pat Quinn’s harmful budget cuts that would undermine public safety, slash services for the most vulnerable and wipe out some 3,000 middle-class jobs—even as Quinn hands out huge new tax breaks to some of the state’s largest and most profitable corporations.

The statewide Day of Action is part of AFSCME’s “No Quinn Cuts” campaign, which includes radio spots, a petition and a Facebook page, all accessible via www.NoQuinnCuts.com.
