Gifts in the Moment to Hold Ribbon-Cutting for the South Garden Urban Farmers Market and Learning Center

Gifts in the Moment (gitm) Foundation, in conjunction with the Peoria Park District, will hold a ribbon cutting for the South Garden Urban Farmers Market and Learning Center on Thursday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the Peoria Park District’s Logan Recreation Center, 1414 S. Livingston. Representatives from gitm, the Peoria Park Board of Trustees and staff, Illinois American Water, YMCA, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Christ Lutheran Church and School will discuss the Urban Farmers Market concept, mission and plans. Following the ribbon cutting, a reception will be held next door to the garden at Christ Lutheran School.

The project is a cooperative effort through gitm and community partners the Peoria Park District, Better Earth Compost, Christ Lutheran Church, Christ Lutheran School, Hy-Vee, Illinois American Water, Neighborhood House, Rebuilding Together, YMCA, and Evangelical Lutheran Church. In addition to vegetables, fruits and herbs, the garden will provide nutritional education, cooking workshops and food tastings. The Outdoor Learning Center is designed to educate neighborhood children about nutrition and environmental impact while providing multisensory learning.

Gifts in the Moment (gitm) was founded in 2008 in hopes of stemming the tide of the lack of faith, the sense of helplessness and hopelessness seen in youth. More information can be found at www.believegitm.com.
