The union representing frontline employees of the Peoria Adult Transition Center (ATC) will hold a news conference this morning immediately before the legislative Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (COGFA) hearing on Governor Pat Quinn’s threat to close the facility. Leaders of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) will preview their testimony in support of keeping Peoria ATC open.
Other supporters invited to join the news conference include local employers of ATC inmates, former inmates whose re-entry to the community was aided by the ATC, state senator Dave Koehler and representative Jehan Gordon.

ATCs help to reduce recidivism and maintain public safety. Law enforcement officials, workforce development experts and prison-reform groups all oppose Gov. Quinn’s threat to close the ATCs.
