The Community Foundation of Central Illinois holds 24th Annual Meeting, April 17 at Par-a-Dice Hotel and Casino

The Community Foundation of Central Illinois held its 24th Annual Meeting, A Report to the Community today, April 17 at Par-a-Dice Hotel and Casino from 11:30 am-1:15 pm.

In attendance were community leaders, fund holders, and grantees. Attendees were treated to lunch and a program that highlighted the efforts of the CFCI in 2011. The Community Foundation of Central Illinois distributed more than $280,000 in grants and scholarships in 2011 through its competitive granting process. In addition, CFCI CEO, Mark Roberts shared with the group that $6.2 million of charitable giving was distributed in 2011 by generous fund holders of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois and the CFCI Depository.

In Fall 2011 the American Red Cross, Central Illinois Chapter, was awarded a $7150 grant from the Community Foundation of Central Illinois to offset costs to continue offering free youth education classes to more than 200 schools, day cares, afterschool programs, camps and community agencies. These classes are presented with the use of puppets that were developed by American Red Cross staff. Anne Fox, CEO of the American Red Cross spoke about the impact made by the grant and American Red Cross Youth Education staff put on one of the puppet shows for CFCI’s guests.

Lastly, The Community Foundation of Central Illinois announced the winners of their recent Facebook Grantmaking contest, South Side Mission and Wildlife Prairie State Park , and presented the 2011 Founder’s Award to Jerald I. Horn, Attorney at Law. Horn is a former Community Foundation Board Member, and has played a role in securing nearly four million in gifts received by CFCI since 2001. The Founder’s Award comes with a $500 grant to be given to the recipient’s charitable organization of choice.
