USE OF LINK CARDS ENCOURAGED AT PEORIA RIVERFRONT FARMER’S MARKET

In an effort to encourage healthy eating, the Dietetic Interns from OSF Saint Francis Medical Center have staffed the LINK booth at the Riverfront Farmer’s Market in downtown Peoria for the past two years offering cooking demos and recipe samples and other education about preparing the produce from the market.

This year, the Farmer’s Market has received a $2,500 grant to double the LINK redemption value. This means if a person redeems $20 from their LINK card, they will get $40 to spend at the market.

“We are very excited about this program,” said Anna Binder, OSF Saint Francis Dietetic Intern. “It is a great way to keep food dollars local and to help everyone have access to the best food central Illinois has to offer. It also makes it even more affordable to encourage healthy eating habits.”

The Riverfront Farmer’s Market opens Saturday, June 2, 2012 featuring a variety of homegrown fruits and vegetables.
