Illinois American Water’s Peoria District to Complete Water Main Replacement along Washington Street in Downtown Peoria

Project will affect traffic beginning May 29, 2012

Illinois American Water’s Peoria District will replace approximately 2,200 feet of 12-inch water main along Washington Street in downtown Peoria. The work will begin on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 on Washington Street from Main Street on the North to Liberty Street on the South. This investment will enhance water quality, water pressure and fire protection to customers.

In order to complete the project, the northbound lanes of Washington Street will be closed from Harrison Street to Hamilton Boulevard and include a traffic detour up Adams Street. Access to businesses within these limits will be provided. The southbound lanes of Washington Street will remain open. During the partial road closure, detour signs will be posted for the alternate route. Motorists should use caution, obey traffic signs and follow detour routes when driving in the area.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed and the road to be reopened on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. This work will not affect water service to customers. For more information about Illinois American Water please visit www.illinoisamwater.com.
