Interruption in service to begin at 9 a.m. on May 30, 2012 to affected service area
Illinois American Water will temporarily interrupt water service tomorrow morning – Wednesday, May 30, 2012 – at 9:00 a.m. to complete critical repairs to a water main. The affected area includes Mossville at Sherman Road as well as all Illinois American Water customers in that area to the North. Affected neighborhoods include Mossville, Rome, Woodland Heights, Pinewood Estates, Edgewater and Galena Knolls.
Customers will be notified via door hangers and Illinois American Water’s customer notification system which calls customers in the affected area with information. The Company is also working with local media to ensure customers receive notification. Customers are encouraged to store water now, while water is available.
Water service is expected to be restored by 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. When service is restored, customers in the affected area will be under a precautionary boil water advisory. This boil water advisory is being issued in accordance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations. Anytime water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch in any part of a community’s distribution system, a boil water advisory must be issued as a precaution to protect customers.
Customers in the area described above should bring their water to a rolling boil for five minutes before using for drinking or cooking. Water is OK for bathing, washing and other common uses. The boil water advisory will be in effect until water quality samples confirm that the water remains safe for consumption.
Standard boil water advisories normally last 36 hours. Customers will receive another telephone call once the boil water advisory is lifted. Media will also be notified. Customers may call Illinois American Water’s 24-hour Customer Service Center at 1-800-422-2782 for more information.
