The City of Peoria Constitution Garden Committee will be holding their annual Flag Day Program to acknowledge ‘National Flag Day’
At 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012, the ceremony will start – at 6:00 p.m. the “Pause for the Pledge” will be held, when people Nation-wide will be re-affirming their Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. A Flag Folding and Flag Retirement Ceremony will be held by the American Legion, Post II directly thereafter. Any U.S. Flags needing a proper retirement may be brought to the event and left on a provided table – which will already be piled with Flags that have served and are ready for retirement (burned).
Constitution Garden is located at the foot of Morton Street, Peoria – about 7 mi north of the Courthouse on Adams, turn toward the river on Morton Street).
The City of Peoria will be recognizing Flag Day with a Proclamation, accepted by Carol VanWinkle, President of the City of Peoria Constitution Garden Committee.
The City will also recognize the annual donation by the South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria, IL of the 13 banners carried by our original colonies in the Revolutionary War (displayed at the 6-12-2012 City Council Meeting), accepted by S-W Kiwanis President Conley Stutz.
On June 14, 2012, (6pm) the Peoria County Board will recognize National Flag Day with a Proclamation (accepted by Constitution Garden member Mike Biaetto).
