Artistic Director David Commanday and HFO Principal Strings at Eureka College Strings Festival

David Commanday is the Director of the first Strings Festival at Eureka College, taking place this weekend

The Festival focuses on small chamber music groups and string orchestra, and will feature two concerts on the campus. Participants come from six states, and are both community orchestra and advanced younger student players. For three days the musicians rehearse in small groups and orchestra, with special sessions on healthy playing techniques and string instrument maintenance and acquisition.

David will be joined by a teaching and playing faculty from the Heartland Festival Orchestra:

Concertmaster Sarah Gentry,
Principal Second Violin José Valencia,
Co-Principal Violist Diane Wuthrich,
Principal Cellist Barbara Hedlund, and
Cellist Beau Commanday

The concerts are free and open to the public.

Chamber Music:
Saturday, June 30, at 8 PM, featuring quartets and quintets of Mendelssohn, Schubert, and others.
The HFO Faculty String Quintet will perform as well.

String Orchestra:
Sunday, July 1, at 2 PM, featuring works of Britten, Respighi, Gershwin, Rouse, and others.
