Gordon-Booth Launches Fourth Annual Cell Phones for Soldiers Drive

As part of her on going effort to support military members, state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth (D-Peoria) will be holding her 4th Annual Cell Phone for Soldiers Drive. Residents are encouraged to drop off their old cell phones at various locations throughout the district.

“Having the ability to talk to our family on a daily basis is a comfort that many of us take for granted. Soldiers serving our country are not able to talk to their families in the same way.” Gordon-Booth said. “I am proud to be partnering with Cell Phones for Soldiers to once again help our troops talk to loved ones at home. I encourage everyone to drop off old cell phones at one of our drop off locations.”

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non-profit organization that has raised millions of dollars in donations. The organization delivers approximately 12,000 free calling cards to our soldiers on a weekly basis. Collected equipment will be sold to ReCellular and the proceeds are used to purchase calling cards that are given to U.S. military personnel serving around the world. Cell phones and chargers can be donated and recycled at the following locations:

• Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth’s District Office, 300 E War Memorial Drive, Suite 303, Peoria
• Peoria RiverPlex, 600 NE Water Street, Peoria
• Limestone Township Building, 1501 W. Garfield Ave., Bartonville

“Each phone that is donated allows members of our military to talk to their families for 2.5 hours for free,” Gordon-Booth said. “As we celebrate our independence this Fourth of July, let us also remember the sacrifices that our soldiers and their families are making to help give us this freedom.”
