Local Swimmers to Have Opportunity to Learn from Olympian

(Washington, IL 61571) – Five Points Washington is pleased to announce that on Saturday, November 4, 2012 they are hosting their first Washington area athletes will have a unique chance to enhance their competitive swimming skills by working with two swimming champions, Matt Grevers and Annie Chandler.

The day will begin with a four hour in-water stroke technique clinic from 1:00 – 5:00 PM for ages 8 to 18 year olds. Attendees will be in the water with Grevers and Chandler for in-water demonstration and instruction on swim strokes and techniques. Some participants may even have a chance to test their strokes in a race against the Olympic champion. After a short break, Grevers and Chandler will attend a banquet starting at 6 PM in their honor in the banquet center of Five Points Washington where they will share their inspirational stories. The cost for the clinic including the banquet is $75 and additional tickets for the banquet only are $20. he banquet is open to the public. Included in the day will be autographs and photos with the swimming champions.

The clinic will be limited to 120 swimmers (coaches and parents can observe in a restricted access area). Registration for the Mutual of Omaha Breakout! About Matt Grevers
Swimming in his first major international competition at the 2008 Olympic Games, Grevers earned a silver medal in the 100-meter backstroke and won gold medals swimming in the preliminary heats of the 400-meter medley and 400-meter freestyle relays, in which his team set a world record. A few months later at the Short Course Championships, Grevers continued his run by winning gold medals in the 50-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay and silver medals in the 400-yard freestyle relay, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle.
On July 30, 2012 Grevers won his first individual Olympic GOLD medal setting a new Olympic record for the 100 M backstroke. He continues to compete in the team relays in London this week seeking another gold medal or two! A graduate of Northwestern University, Grevers now lives and trains in Tucson, Ariz.

About Annie Chandler
Annie Chandler is an NCAA Champion and Pan Pacific Championship Team breaststroker. She had an outstanding 2010 – one of those breakout years only a few athletes ever experience. After winning her first ever individual NCAA Championship in the 100 breaststroke, Chandler went on to finish 2nd in the 100m breaststroke at the National Championships, qualifying her for the Pan Pacific Championship Team. Chandler lives and trains in Tucson, Arizona.
