Illinois Gastroenterology Institute Joins the Central Illinois Health Information Exchange

(Peoria, IL) – Illinois Gastroenterology Institute (IGI) has joined the Central Illinois Health Information Exchange (CIHIE). As a participating member, the organization will be able to share electronic medical records with other members using the allchartstm software. Health information exchange (HIE) networks can simplify medical record sharing, replacing old methods such as faxing and mailing with instant access to information critical to proper care.

“The staff and physicians of IGI are honored to be a part of this dynamic organization,” said Dave Underwood, IGI Practice Administrator. “Health information exchanges are sorely needed throughout the country if we are going to improve patient outcomes while lowering the cost of care. For a busy specialty practice such as IGI, the ability to view data on a real time basis from other CIHIE members will help our physicians become more familiar with their patient’s total medical history prior to and during a visit.”

“The average American sees 18 physicians in their lifetime*, leaving records scattered across central Illinois. This is a problem because providers need to know a patient’s complete medical story to make good decisions,” said Joy Duling, Executive Director of CIHIE. “Illinois Gastroenterology Institute and the other participating members are stepping up to improve patient care.”

In addition to IGI, current members of CIHIE include: Advocate Bromenn Medical Center, Normal; Community Health Improvement Center, Decatur; Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur; Dr. John Warner Hospital, Clinton; Easter Seals of Peoria & Bloomington-Normal & Decatur; Heartland Community Health Clinic, Peoria; Heritage Behavioral Health, Decatur; Human Service Center, Peoria; Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Peoria; Macon County Health Department, Decatur; Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, Peoria; OSF Healthcare System, Peoria; Proctor Hospital, Peoria; St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur; St. Mary’s Hospital, Streator; and University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.
