Tanners Orchard will be hosting the Networking Association for Farm Direct Marketing and Agritourism’s (NAFDMA) annual Advanced Learning Retreat (ALR) on August 17-20. This event brings together family farmers from around the country to share ideas and marketing techniques in facilitated small group settings. Tanners Orchard was selected because of its ongoing success, especially in its market, bakery and “agritainment” activities. This year, more than 45 farmers and their families will take part in the retreat.
NAFDMA is a trade association dedicated to nurturing the farm direct marketing industry. Its actions are driven by those whose daily lives are dedicated to this way of life. Its members support their family farms by selling millions of dollars worth of farm-grown produce directly to consumers at farm stands, farmers markets, pick-your-own farms, consumer-supported agriculture, agritourism venues, and other ever-growing innovations in direct producer-to-consumer agricultural marketing methods.
“We are very proud to host the ALR retreat this year. It’s a great opportunity to share our successes and learn from other family farmers,” said Marilyn Tanner, co-owner of Tanners Orchard. “With so many attendees coming this year, we expect it to be a productive and energizing retreat.”
In 2012, Tanners Orchards is celebrating its 65th anniversary. Since 1947, four generations of the Tanner family have created and shared an amazing country farm experience. At Tanners Orchard you’ll find a family atmosphere where fun is the order of the day. The orchard sports over 11,000 trees and 17 varieties of apples. There are over 20 acres of pumpkins along with various other fruits and vegetables. You’ll find a large assortment of gifts and delicious food offerings in the Farm Market and Apple Bin Bakery. And the Back 40 Fun Acres will keep the entire family busy for the day.
During the months of September and October, Tanners Orchard is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
