PEORIA PARK DISTRICT JULY ACTIVITIES
TINY TOTS NATURE STROLL JULY 1
The Forest Park Nature Center will host a Tiny Tots Nature Stroll for children up to age four and parents on Wednesday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m. Trails will be stroller accessible, although we may encounter a few bumps along the way! Pre-registeration is required. No fee; donations appreciated. Call 686-3360.
ANNUAL INDEPENDENCE DAY FIREWORKS
The annual Fireworks Spectacular at Glen Oak Park, Friday, July 3rd. Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and head down to Glen Oak Park to spend the day and celebrate with our great line-up of entertainment. The Amphitheatre gates open at 4:00 with the PPD Explosion Cheer Team kicking off the festivities. At 5:00 the Great Expectations Show Chorus & Community Children’s Theatre will perform. A special performance by the Clonmel Marching Band will entertain you from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The entertainment finishes with the Peoria Municipal Band at 8:00 & the big fireworks finale at dark. Bring your own picnic or purchase available food. No attendance fee! Call 688-3667.
BACKYARD BIRD WATCHING JULY 4
The Forest Park Nature Center will present “Introduction to Backyard Bird Watching” on Saturday, July 4th, at 10:00 a.m. This class will start you on the path to becoming a backyard birder. We’ll go over the basics for learning how to bird watch, covering everything from bird feeder and feed selection, binocular basics, backyard habitats, and a bit of natural history on common backyard birds. If you own binoculars, bring them for the binocular tutorial. This program is FREE and open to teens and adults. Donations appreciated. Call 686-3360.
ROE FAMILY BAND IN CONCERT JULY 5
The Forest Park Nature Center will host a concert by the Roe Family Band on Sunday, July 5, at 7:00 p.m., as part of the Nature Center’s 2009 “Songs from the Woods” concert series. The Roe Family Band plays bluegrass, old time and acoustic music. They have been performing as a family for five years and have played at many festivals and venues across the country. Payment for reserved seating is available at the Trailhead Nature Store. General admission seating ing is payable at the door. Concert fees are $7 for adults, $6 for children, and CORE members receive $1 off. Call 686-3360.
PRAIRIE WILDFLOWER WALKS THIS SUMMER
The Forest Park Nature Center will host Prairie Wildflower Walks on Wednesday, July 15; Wednesday, July 29; Saturday, August 1 and Saturday, August 15. All walks are at 9:30 a.m. These walks are open to ages 10 and up. No fee; donations appreciated. Call 686-3360.
“SEUSSICAL!”
The Peoria Park District’s Community Children’s Theatre will present “SEUSSICAL!” the musical at Peoria Players Theater on July 9 at 7:00 p.m., July 10 & 11 at 1:30 & 7:00 pm, and July 12 at 1:30 pm. Tickets are $10.00 for adults/$8.00 for children 12 & under & seniors.Call 681-2861.
Walks in the Park for Seniors this Summer. Adults 50+ are invited to join friends and neighbors as we enjoy walking in our Peoria Park District parks this summer. Sign up for Senior Walks in the Park on either or both of the dates below! The $4 fee includes a cup of coffee or tea and transport to and from either Proctor Center or Logan Rec Center.

“Fun and Fit Over 50”
“Fun and Fit Over 50” exercise classes are being offered by the Peoria Park District on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at two convenient locations. Enjoy this low-impact cardio class that incorporates toning, strengthening and stretching. The fee is $25 for a 13-visit punch card or $2.50 per drop-in visit.
The ongoing classes are offered at: First Baptist Church, 411 W. Lake Ave., Peoria with Teresa Pearce. The other location is at Franciscan Recreation Complex, 908 Sterling Ave., West Peoria with Nancy Shallenberger. Call 681-2859.
