The regular school board meeting for Dunlap District 323 was held June 18 with seven members in attendance.
Athlete Sammie Yeh was recognized. Athletic Administrative Assistant Pam Douglas was recognized for her service and for an award she received as Athletic Administrative Assistant of the Year. Douglas retired in June after working for the district since 1985.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Dearman explained expansion for the Athletic Training Center. School leaders made a deal with a local farmer to swap land and gain additional ground to extend the building site. The $8.5 million center is being built on the corner of Cedar Hills Dr. and Legion Hall Road. At a May board meeting, the project was put on short hold after board members voted to expand the facility, adding $4 million in cost. While waiting for new blueprints the district had to pay crews $2,000 a day to stand by. Dearman said it should be open by next summer.
Dearman addressed swimming pool problems. They will be making some immediate repairs and assessing issues concerning original construction of the pool.
A community member expressed concern about the district requiring her daughter to be instructed at home.
During discussion about school activity fees, some board members were concerned about the amount and exactly which activities would be included. The administration recommended raising fees from $90 to $100. Board decision for fees will be made in time for 2026 registration.
The resolution for the Real Estate Exchange Agreement was approved. The regular meeting was followed by closed session to discuss employees and litigation.
