Various municipal agencies are going green, reports the League of Women Voters of Greater Peoria.
The only actions in regular business at the Jan. 8 Peoria County Board meeting were unanimous zoning approvals for a new solar energy installation in Hollis Township and expansion of one in Princeville Township. Also, Chairman James Dillon shared during announcements that initial actions related to the proposed Four Creeks Wind Project could be addressed by appropriate committees and the full board in upcoming months.
Dunlap District 323 School Board Director of Operations Scott Adreon reported at the Jan. 21 meeting that the district saved $9,000 to $10,000 in the last two months because of use of solar energy at the high school.
And the Greater Peoria Sanitary District, in accordance with its Renewable Energy Initiative, approved a 20-year solar agreement with SCS Darst LLC. Located near West Clark and South Darst Streets, the solar array will generate approximately 3.86 million kWh annually, covering 20-30% of the plant’s power needs. GPSD will purchase this power at a fixed rate of $0.035 per kWh, providing long-term price certainty and significant savings.
