On June 4, the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission voted to adopt the 2026 budget. Of the $2,749,437 revenue, $1,843,524 was federal money, $341,326 was state money, and $564,586 was local money.
Commissioners adopted the Tri-County Comprehensive Safety Action Plan with some discussion; formed a Safety Action Committee; adopted the Vision Zero and Illinois Department of Transportation’s Zero Fatality Goal by 2050. They have already secured funding. This will guide highway management policy and road design, aiming to eliminate traffic deaths (including pedestrians, bicyclists, wheelchairs and scooters) and serious injuries in the Tri-County region by 2050. Vision Zero will be incorporated into the long-range planning processes.
