The Watch: Tri-County planners talk safety road improvements

The Tri-County Regional Planning Com-mission met on Feb. 4.

The Regional Transportation Safety (Special) Committee’s 21 appointees and purpose were approved. The committee will guide implementation of the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP). The purpose is to monitor and review regional crash data, assist in developing federally required transportation safety performance measures and promote ongoing dialogue and outreach on roadway safety.

The 2025-28 Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) was amended to include: Sheridan Road from Sherbrook Lane to Northmoor; seven Peoria County intersections; Broadway Road resurfacing in Tazewell County, and Wisconsin Avenue from McClure to Forrest Hill in the city of Peoria.

Commissioners also discussed the next Call for Projects, which include the Carbon Reduction Program, Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities, Surface Transportation Block Grant, and Transportation Alternatives.

Tri-County is helping the city and county apply for federal technical assistance. It will work with Mackinaw and Elmwood on grant funding for comprehensive planning activities.
