Dr. Jerry Bell

The Peoria Public Schools Board met Jan. 26 with all members present, and approved the new position of Deputy Superintendent, effective July 1. And members approved the 2026-2029 employment contracts for Dr. Jerry Bell as new Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent Renee Andrews. Both passed 5-0, with Brenda Wilson and Christina Rose abstaining.

Bell, who was executive director of PPS middle schools in 2015-2023, discussed highlights of his 100-day plan, including town hall meetings.

Andrews said she was excited to be first to hold this new position and work collaboratively with Bell.

Current Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat mentioned a new policy that went into effect in 2026 where seventh- and eighth-grade students may earn high school credit for classes.
