A cannabis lounge is coming to West Peoria in the closed Sky Harbor Steak House. City Council approved multiple ordinance changes, including a special use permit to allow creation of the High Harbor Cannabis Event Center at 1321 Park Road. The establishment will not be selling marijuana. The site will allow visitors to bring and smoke their own legal pot while listening to bands and/or socializing. Illinois law allows local communities to regulate such businesses. There is one other similar marijuana site, the Luna Lounge in the town of Sesser near the southern tip of the state.
Owners hope to open High Harbor this year though not on a routine schedule. Once purchase of the building is closed, remodeling can begin according to Ron DiGiacomo, co-president of High Harbor Holdings, LLC. He is founder and vice-president of Trinity Compassionate Care Dispensary and its two locations in Peoria.
High Harbor initial offerings will include concerts and pot-based cooking classes.
A long-time West Peorian passed away recently. Walt Fehl was involved in many community activities with his family joining him in helping. He will be missed. Sympathies and thanks go out to the Fehl family.
