The West Peoria Fire Department has worked each year and continues to be vital in this effort to strengthen our community. As Clean-Up Day became larger, it was moved to Township property on Hillside with a garage and fence, making the event operate much more smoothly and safely. All varieties of volunteers are needed. To become part of this event, call Sharon Kennedy, (309) 208-7849.
Since the abolishment of the township, Clean-Up Day is truly a volunteer event. Join with your family and neighbors. Unable to be held last year; there is a much greater need this year. Take advantage.
Bring items to the city garage, 1322 N. Hillside, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday Sept. 11. Get your materials ready ahead of time. Keep in mind, the workers are volunteers spending a day making West Peoria a safer better place for us all. West Peoria residency will be verified.
It will cost $3 to drop off car tires and $5 for truck tires. Those are the only fees. Smaller-sized and light-weight furniture will be accepted. Many electronics: TV’s, VCR’s, computers, printers, copiers, monitors, radios, and cell phones can also be dropped off. Arrangements also have been made to accept expired medications.
Items NOT accepted include: food garbage. hazardous waste, paints, varnishes, oil, cleaning agents, chemicals, antifreeze, batteries, yard waste and brush. Yard waste is part of your garbage pick-up.
Sept. 6 is Labor Day this year. The first Monday in September has long been set aside as Labor Day, the federally recognized day to pay tribute to the various labor organizations in our country. Enjoy and reflect a bit on our history. Fly your flag.
Much appreciation is extended to all who participate both by working and donating.
