The Peoria Riverfront Museum’s new “American Revolutionaries: Art & Disruption” shows a cross-section of styles from American artists unafraid of upending The Way We’ve Always Done It. The first time central Illinois has had access to the prestigious Art Bridges collection, the curated art blends with works from the museum’s collection. Fifteen featured artists range from 19th century landscape painter George Henry Durrie (illustrator for Currier and Ives) to feminist and multi-media artist Judy Chicago. The exhibit will remain until next spring.

Television

The CW on Aug. 11 will present the U.S. premiere of “Bump,” an Australian dramedy about a high-achieving high schooler who has an unplanned pregnancy.

Music

The Hard Bop Messengers and the Central Illinois Jazz Society House band will play Aug. 21 at Trailside Event Center.

Comedy

  • Emmy Award-winning comic, actor and writer John Mulaney brings his “From Scratch” tour to the Civic Center Theater Aug. 17.
  • A stand-up comedian featured on Showtime, Netflix and Amazon prime, Steve Trevino is scheduled to perform at Five Points Washington Aug. 26.

Theater

Corn Stock Theatre’s summer season sizzles with two musicals this month: “Freaky Friday” Aug. 5-13, starring Ayana Thompson and Olivia Vicary, and “Mary Poppins” Aug. 26-Sept. 3.

Streaming

Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart star in the comedy “Me Time” starting Aug. 26 on Netflix, about a father whose family’s away and his adventures after reconnecting with a friend.

Cinema

  • Opening Aug. 12, “Emily the Criminal” is a the thriller starring Aubrey Plaza (“Parks & Recreation”) as a college grad buried in debt who gets involved in a credit-card scam. Co-starring is Theo Rossi (“Sons of Anarchy”).
  • Sylvester Stallone stars in “Samaritan,” an action yarn that looks at superheroes from a different angle. Opening Aug. 26, the movie follows a kid who learns that a superhero who vanished after a huge battle decades before may be around, keeping a low profile.
