Construction begins on new City Hall; public safety top priority on the agenda West Peoria is a hive of activity this summer with a groundbreaking ceremony for the new City Hall and a State of the City address that detailed how the City of West Peoria, the Lighting District, the Fire District, and the West Peoria Residents Association work together to improve our community.

On May 14th, shovels hit the dirt, marking the official start of an exciting new project in West Peoria. The new City Hall will transform the landscape at the corner of Rohmann and Sterling.

The West Peoria Residents Association (WPRA) hosted its annual State of the City address on May 16, when Mayor James Dillon outlined a range of initiatives designed to make West Peoria a vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family.

NEW BUSINESS: Getting around West Peoria is about to get a whole lot easier. The Mayor announced plans for extensive sidewalk projects on Laura Ave. and Downs Circle, along with street repaving and seal coating on several key roads. These improvements enhance the town’s walkability and ensure a safer experience for pedestrians and drivers.

With a balanced budget for FY 2025, the city’s commitment to responsible fiscal management is clear. This strong foundation allows the city to continue investing in essential services and exciting new developments that benefit the community.

West Peoria depends on the success of local businesses. The Mayor highlighted efforts to partner with local entrepreneurs, including the upcoming launch of the iTM machine and ongoing bank courier services as the Bank of Farmington partners with West Peoria to bring banking back to the city. Support local businesses and invest in a stronger West Peoria.

SAFE SPACE: The safety and well-being of residents is a top priority, and the success of the fire department’s tax referendum demonstrates the community’s unwavering support for West Peoria firefighters. The city also implemented a multi-jurisdiction hazard mitigation plan to ensure a coordinated approach to emergency preparedness.

The WPRA plays a vital role in keeping residents informed through its newsletter and sponsoring community activities. It’s actively seeking a newsletter coordinator and exploring ways to reach more residents. Residents can join the WPRA and participate in upcoming events as a way to connect with neighbors and contribute to a strong community.
