As the leaves begin their annual transformation, painting the landscape in vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold, our community comes alive with a sense of warmth and togetherness. Fall is a season that invites us to slow down, appreciate the beauty around us, and strengthen our connections with one another.
From pumpkin patches and corn mazes to apple picking and hayrides, there’s no shortage of family-friendly activities to enjoy. These events not only provide opportunities for fun and recreation but also foster a sense of community spirit. As we gather together to celebrate the harvest, we create lasting memories and strengthen the bonds that tie us together.
SCOUT STUFF: Speaking of community, Boy Scout Troop 11 is gearing up for its annual fall fundraiser. The Scouts will be selling Christmas wreaths and butter braids Oct. 14-28, just in time for the holidays. Delivery will be made conveniently in November before Thanksgiving.
Troop 11 has been a pillar of the West Peoria community for the last 80 years, offering youth a chance to develop valuable skills and leadership qualities. Through activities like hiking, family life, first aid, and even robotics or music, Scouts can earn a variety of merit badges. They also enjoy regular camping trips throughout the year and can ultimately strive for the prestigious Eagle Scout rank, a testament to service, community engagement, and leadership development. Troop 11 now has 77 Scouts who have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
If you’re interested in supporting Troop 11’s mission or getting your child involved in Scouting, simply reach out to any Scout from the troop, contact Mary Menke at (309) 657-0309 or Bob De Sutter at (309) 369-8078.
TRUNK ’N TREAT: But fall isn’t just about delicious treats and supporting local organizations. It’s also a time to celebrate with our neighbors. Mark your calendars for the West Peoria Residents’ Association’s annual Trunk ’N Treat event, co-hosted by the City of West Peoria. This spooky yet safe gathering will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. on Halloween evening, Thursday, Oct. 31, in the parking lot across from City Hall at the corner of Barker and Sterling. Residents interested in decorating their trunks and handing out candy should register with City Hall by email at office@cityofwestpeoria.com or by phone (309-674-1993).
So, this fall, embrace the changing season, reconnect with loved ones, and participate in the wonderful events that make West Peoria such a vibrant and welcoming community.
