Election Commission reports 60% of mail-in ballots returned

Peoria County Board of Election Commissioners met Sept. 10 with all present except Ryan Brady.

A public contest was held for a new “I voted” sticker, with categories for those over and under 18 years of age.

On Oct. 15, all commissioners were present except Rosa Kemper. They learned 13,000 of the 22,000 Vote-by-Mail ballots sent out had already been returned — approximately 60%. Expectation is that 90% will be returned. Also, 3,500 citizens had voted early for an average of about 300 a day.

After a question about having a VBM ballot but choosing to vote in person, Executive Director Elizabeth Gannon explained the VBM ballot should be handed in at the polling place. If not, the voter gets a provisional ballot that won’t be counted until it is ensured the citizen is not voting twice.
