Woodruff High School closed its doors on June 4th, 2010. Since then, School District 150 has been transitioning to accommodate the students that left Woodruff for other schools.

Most of the students moved on to Peoria Central High School. Others went to Richwoods High School, and some went to Manuel High School.

Some remodeling has been done at Peoria Central. According to School District 150’s spokesperson Chris Coplan, the school renovated stairways to control traffic in the halls.

Coplan also said that overcrowding has not been a problem at the schools with the new students.

“We’ve worked really hard not only this year, but a lot work that was in the planning was [done] last year,” Coplan said. “I think we are seeing that hard work pay off and the students [and] staff are doing a great job at Peoria High.”

The Woodruff Alumni Association has been working to keep certain aspects of Woodruff alive. The Alumni Association provides scholarships to Woodruff alumni graduates in college. The Woodruff High School Alumni Scholarship is a $2000 award to students who had graduated from the high school.

The Alumni Association are hoping to track the students for the next three years that were relocated so that they can still be eligible for the Woodruff scholarships.

Alumni Association President Judy McDowell was President when the school closed and has been working to keep Woodruff a part of the Peoria Community, even though it no longer serves its children.

“The Woodruff Alumni Association is alive and well,” McDowell said. “We miss Woodruff, as we all do, but we must progress.”
